Product Summary

The product we will be sending to Africa is called the Mirror Lotus. This device has multiple parts to it. These elements work towards maximizing the electricity output of the solar panel. First off, reflective add-ons are placed on the edges of the solar panels. Their purpose is to reflect more light into the solar panel. They have the ability to fold in and out. This part was added because depending on where the sun is, certain angles will be ideal at different points during the day. There is also a component at the base of the product which is able to rotate. Using a ball and socket joint, the “stem” of the mirror lotus can be moved and directed towards  the sun. Again, we intend to increase the amount energy the solar panel produces with this aspect of the product. By pointing the panel directly at the sun more light is captured by the panel. Both of these additions to a standard solar panel function manually. Adding a motorized chip would cause more problems than needed. It would obviously cost more, which would make it more difficult to manufacture. Also, in a developing country like Guinea it’s rather difficult to find someone on short notice to inexpensively fix a programmed chip. It is also more likely to get damaged because of the harsh climate and loose particles everywhere on the ground. This is why we’ve decided to keep all motion in the product manual. This is a quick summary of how the product works. We have made these decisions in an effort to best help Guinea get the power they need.
