Executive Summary
The sun has massive potential energy, this has led various people from all around the world to use its power as a tool. Ever since 700 B.C with the first magnifying glass used to create fire the solar inventions have been getting greater and more useful as the years go on. Only in 1954, when the sun was used to convert solar energy into electricity. With this technology humans have been using it as a tool for various reasons; giving countries with a lack of infrastructure electricity, providing clean food and water, and in the recent years we’ve been using it as a clean energy source to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our company, Solar Evolution, was formed by a group of biology high school students from Engineering Science University Magnet Schools, Hamden, Connecticut. Solar Evolution has been working to provide a clean source of energy to the greater New Haven, to make New Haven a better a cleaner and healthier place to live. If we were to make a simple switch in the New Haven street light system to our H31i0. Our product, the H31i0, uses a moving ball and socket joint to follow the sun with the solar panels. Both these aspects would not only create an efficient solar panel unit, but help create a cleaner and healthier society.
We plan to take this innovative design to Guinea, West Africa. The money we have acquired from our first and second year plans will provide for this initiative. In Guinea there is a lack of education across all different ages, races, and sexuality. Even though we see the need for all education, we would like to specifically target women’s education. As of now women’s education is about 15 percent lower than men. Also in Guinea, safety and security rights are exploited. With more reliable electricity systems, this country that is lacking infrastructure, will have access to light systems at night. This will allow the women to study at night and for the citizens in small villages to be more secure. Our product will provide education and security to the citizens of Guinea.
Our versatile team of students have an assortment of useful skills. We have people using 3D modeling to show what are product will do, along with a research and a build team working cohesively to make sure our product has a high electricity output. We are using social media to help get the word out there about our company. Our team of students are not only impacting New Haven, but changing it.
